Description
This knife is a White handled long elvish knife of the woodland folk, it is a collaboration between Petr Florianek and myself. Petr is a good friend and talented Bladesmith he works from his workshop out side of Prague, he has a wonderful imagination and is a very thorough knowledge of historical forms as well as the fantastical. I really love our collaborations and they represent some of the best Work I’m involved in Making. In this case my wrought iron and steel blade was just the canvas for Petr to work his magic on.
In our collaborations Petr and myself think of our work together like the work of the Dark elves from Norse myth ( Dökkálfar) or possibly the Dwarves or elves from Middle earth. We are trying to make legendary pieces with the work of our hands that transcend the mundane and exist in the world of legends.
The blade is Made from wrought iron and Carbon steel, there is wrought iron at the spine taken from old church clappers which have the best wrought iron, then Carbon steel at the edge The blade is engraved with tendril ornament on one side and teeth to symbolise Elven fighting spirit on the other.. I love this dualistic image of the elves, elegant ,beautifull of nature and yet fierce and feared in battle.
The hilt is carved from reindeer antler and bronze. It is carved with the image of a tree, with blossoms in silver and differently shaded carnelians.
The sheath is Oak tanned leather, that has carved Knot work leaves in the leather and Bronze.
