Description

This smaller seax has a blade that is a 3 bar construction! There is a layer of wrought iron at the spine and then a layer of twisted patternwelded steel. The seax has an edge of  carbon steel. This Seax is made using the same techniques that are used in the making of legendary Saxon and Viking swords.

Broken back seax blades have a very distinctive and stylised geometry, where the blade is thicker at the broken back and tapers towards the tip and back towards the handle. The Anglo Saxon broken back seax is the iconic tool and weapon of the Saxon. And found almost exclusively in the UK. Historically the blades have lots of subtle differences in profile but often share communality with the broken back part of the blade being the thickest and also widest.
This seax has a handle made from Elm wood. The wire wrap is either twisted copper or silver.

These Seax are offered with different add-on’s They are available as 5″,  6″, and  7″ blades and with or without a copper, Iron or silver wire wrap. You can also add a sheath or purchase the seax without it.

This way you can make up your own seax.

I make these seax in small batches so the exact dimensions and pattern will be a little different from the pictures. Because of the bespoke nature of making up a knife with options there may be a delay of 2 to 3 weeks before sending out. I will contact you when purchased and give an idea of time.
