Description
This is a 31″ Viking sword with a 360 layer Damascus steel blade
The slender guard and pommel are made by Alban Deeper and are Bronze, with twisted silver wire added as a highlight to them. The hilt fittings are based on a find from near the Danish Viking Town of Hedeby.
The 360 layer random pattern Damascus blade is forged from 360 layers of steel that have been forge welded together and folded. This Damascus has been heavily laddered, that is the pattern is cut into to create an undulating pattern along the blade. This is extenuated by the fullering in the blade, which brings a different set of swirls to the centre of the blade. The individual hammer blows that went into forging the blade i influence the blade pattern no two pieces are ever the same.
The handle is bound leather wrapped over an ash wood core. I have made this handle quite short at 95mm, which is in keeping with a lot of the originals. This puts the pommel in your palm and allowed for more wrist movement in the sword.
I would be happy to make a scabbard for this sword, please enquire.
