Description

Poseidon is a sea inspired Falcata .

The blade is based upon a blade in the metropolitan museum in New York. The Falcata is a wonderful short sword from Iberia in the pre roman early iron age.

The original swords have a horse head on the handle but as I was making this one I noticed the shape of the handle as i forged it, the Muse caught me and it became a fish tail – lobster tail handle and the Falcata became Poseidon

The blade is forged from 300 of random pattern Damascus steel. And the pattern is a story of the processes used to forge the blade. My favourite patternwelding has elements that can be seen from a distance and then subtle patterning in the steel that draw you in, there are 3 steels used in this blade a bright layer and two layers of more subtle differing greys careful or you may become lost in the steel!

The blade shape curves and flairs towards the tip it would be a great cutter It has a fuller and scraped lines along the spine, as well as false edges meeting at the end of the fuller. These are often found in original Falcata and  keep the blades weight down and make for elegant intersecting lines.

The guard is made from vintage wrought iron reclaimed from a church bell clapper, it has been heavily etched and patina’d to resemble wrought iron washed up on a beach.. The handle is burned ash reminiscent of driftwood.
