2 Day Handle Course

COVID-19 Due to the current ongoing situation I have cancelled my 3 Day and 5 Day courses, because of the complicated and interactive nature of them. I’m still running 1 Day classes with social distancing and sanitation measures in place and I’ve halved the number of students I  take on the 1 Day classes. I will be running a full schedule as soon as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Please sign up to the mailing list so I can let you know when I have scheduled more courses.

This is a two day course making and fitting a handle to a stick tang knife.

On this course we will fit a handle, bolster and buttcap to a knife blade, ending up with a finished knife.

To secure a place on this course a 50% deposit is required, the remainder being payable one month before the course begins. Alternatively, you may pay the full amount on booking.

Description

No prior experience is needed and the class will guide you through:
  • Punching a guard slot
  • Shaping and fitting a guard
  • Shaping handles including burning in and drilling
  • Glueing , using traditional and modern methods
  • Peining and other fixing methods

This class is a natural extension of the 3 Day Bladesmithing Class.

This class will involve putting a simple guard, handle and butt cap onto a stick tang blade. You can use a blade made on the 3 day bladesmithing class or bring a suitable stick tang blade of your own.

Attendees are required to bring their own stick tang blades (just like the ones you would have made on the bladesmithing class). If you do not have blades I can make them for you (e-mail me for a price) or you can purchase them from Brissa or Nordel Knives.

I will supply wood for handle material; walnut, elm, cherry or similar, and steel and copper / brass for guards.

Materials and safety equipment is provided for all the classes but please ensure that you have non-flammable clothing and sturdy shoes (preferably leather). No shell suits or fleeces please (cotton and wool are perfect).

The course day runs from 9am - 5pm.

Safety equipment is provided for all the classes but please ensure that you have non-flamable clothing and sturdy shoes (preferably leather). No shell suits, fleeces or synthetic flammable materials (cotton and wool are perfect).

Please read the terms & conditions before booking a course.
