This boldly patterned blade is a 5 bar construction. First a layer of wrought iron at the spine, then a twist made up of 2 layers which has been heavily distorted by forging then a pinstripe layer, then another two layer twist finishing with an edge of random pattern damascus.
This has been made using the same techniques that are used in the making of legendary Saxon and Viking swords. Broken back seax blades have a very distinctive and stylised geometry where the blade is thicker at the broken back and tapers towards the tip and back towards the handle.
The ash handle has a copper ferrule at the front and copper butt plate secured with copper rivets.
The sheath is made from whet fitted vegetable tanned leather and has copper fittings.
